World Cup Soccer-  Sun.6.22.14

  • "Conor O'Neill's Traditional Irish Pub in Boulder is hosting an outdoor watch party and soccer festival for Sunday's United States versus Portugal World Cup match.

The pub, working with nonprofit youth soccer club FC Boulder, secured a special event and street closure permit to shut down 13th Street from Pearl to Walnut during the game. Bike lanes will remain open in both directions.

"Soccer is becoming such a big thing in this country, especially with the enthusiasm for the World Cup," said Colm O'Neill, Conor O'Neill's owner. "We want to really raise the profile of soccer and do a bit of fundraising."

FC Boulder will receive a portion of the proceeds from the watch party.

The outside viewing party starts at 3 p.m., while the restaurant opens earlier at 10 a.m. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Outside, fans can watch the action on a 10.5-foot by 17-foot LED screen, with a beer garden set up for drinks. Both the mobile Rocky Mountain Soccer Shop and Fast Eddie's Hot Dog cart also are expected to set up outside."  -dc
